How to use essential oils
Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts. They are made for aromatic use (diffusers, room mists) or diluted topical use (blended into a carrier oil at 1–3%). They are not food.
Safety
Do not swallow. Essential oils are not for internal use — never add them to drinks, food or capsules. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Always patch-test on skin before use, avoid during pregnancy without professional advice, and dilute before applying to the skin.
- Single-note essential oils
- Pure steam-distilled oils from one plant. Add a few drops to a diffuser, or dilute into a carrier oil (jojoba, sweet almond) before applying to skin.
- Essential oil blends
- Pre-mixed aromatic blends for diffusing or diluted topical use. Follow the label — some blends are for aromatherapy only and shouldn't touch skin.
- Hydrosols
- Gentle floral waters — the by-product of distillation. Safe as a skin mist, toner or linen spray. Still not for drinking.
